Meet the Founder
The idea for FundingTrail started in a coffee shop with one of my mentees.

As a volunteer with SCORE Chicago, I’ve spent the last two years working one-on-one with entrepreneurs helping to get their dreams off the ground. Almost every week, a client would ask the same question: "Where do I find grants for my business?"

I wanted to give them a great answer, but the more I looked, the more annoyed I got. The world of small business grants was broken and every option I found was pretty terrible:

Fragmented and Outdated: Most "free" lists online were graveyard pages of expired links and dead ends.

The Paywall Trap: The "grant aggregators" promising answers hid their data behind expensive subscriptions.

Quality Issues: Even the paid tools were just generic web scrapers. They dumped raw data from government databases without any curation. Most of the "business" grants that weren't even intended for small businesses in the first place.
Founders and small business owners deserved something better: a tool that made grants approachable, transparent, and actually relevant to their business.
I’ll be the first to admit I might not have been the "perfect" person to take on this kind of data challenge, but nobody else was doing it so I figured I might as well try! I did my best to build the resource I wished I could have given my SCORE clients. That’s how FundingTrail was born.
