ABOUT THE GRANT

The Oahu Kona Low Business Recovery Grant provides Oahu, Hawaii small businesses affected by the March 2026 Kona Low storms with grants of $5,000 or $10,000 to support their recovery. Administered by the Chamber of Commerce Hawaii in partnership with the State of Hawaii Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism (DBEDT), the program distributes $3.35 million in grant funding made available by the State of Hawaii. Grant amounts are tiered by business size: the Tier 1 Micro Enterprise Grant provides $5,000 to businesses with annual gross revenue under $250,000 and 1 to 10 employees (including the owner), while the Tier 2 Small Business Grant provides $10,000 to businesses with annual gross revenue of $250,000 to $5,000,000 and 11 to 500 employees. When a business's revenue and employee count fall into different tiers, annual revenue is the deciding factor.

To qualify, applicants must be a non-agricultural, for-profit business physically operating on Oahu prior to March 10, 2026, and impacted by the Kona Low storms of March 10 through 23, 2026. At least one business owner must be a Hawaii resident, the business must have been registered with the Hawaii Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs (DCCA) prior to March 10, 2026, and the business must be current on state and federal taxes. Applicants must demonstrate material, economic, or physical harm directly caused by the storm event, and claims must be for unmet storm-related needs not already covered by insurance or other public or private recovery assistance. Home-based businesses that meet all other eligibility requirements are eligible. Nonprofit organizations are not eligible (as the program's eligibility, set by the State contract, is limited to non-agricultural small businesses meeting the federal SBA small-business definition).

Applications are submitted online through the program's application portal. The Chamber of Commerce Hawaii aims to complete application reviews within 15 business days, and approved grants are typically disbursed within 30 days after approval. Applications are reviewed in the order they are received, and grants are distributed until funding is exhausted. Applicants who receive a denial may submit an appeal with additional documentation within 10 business days. Application forms and assistance are available in English along with Japanese, Mandarin, Korean, Tagalog, Hawaiian, Spanish, and Vietnamese.

Clinical Trial Readiness for Rare Diseases, Disorders, and Syndromes
National Institutes of Health

This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) invites researchers to submit applications for support of clinical projects that address critical needs for clinical trial readiness in rare diseases. The initiative seeks applications that are intended to facilitate rare diseases research by enabling efficient and effective movement of candidate therapeutics or diagnostics toward clinical trials, and to increase their likelihood of success. This could be through the development and testing of rigorous biomarkers and clinical outcome assessment measures, or by defining the presentation and course of a rare disease to enable the design of upcoming clinical trials.

Seattle Small Business Capital Access Program
Seattle OED

The Seattle Small Business Capital Access Program (CAP) pays down up to $30,000 (or 20% of the loan principal, whichever is less) on qualifying small business loans for Seattle-based businesses. Administered by the Seattle Office of Economic Development (OED), the program is designed to lower the cost of borrowing for small businesses, particularly those that have historically lacked equitable access to financial services. CAP is not a standalone grant application and businesses do not apply directly. Instead, eligibility is evaluated by a participating community lender at the time of loan approval, and qualifying borrowers receive the principal paydown automatically as part of their financing. Because of this, the most important step for interested business owners is knowing to work with one of CAP's participating community lenders when seeking a small business loan; loans from non-participating lenders are not eligible. Participating lenders include Business Impact NW, Rainier Valley Community Development Fund, Seattle Credit Union, MoFi, Grow America Community Impact Loan Fund, Pursuit, Evergreen Business Capital and Community Finance, and Denkyem Co-Op. Paydowns are issued in two installments — one after the borrower makes 12 on-time monthly payments, and a second after 24 on-time monthly payments — and are applied directly to the loan account rather than disbursed to the borrower, effectively reducing the principal owed. To be eligible, businesses must be for-profit, independently owned, located within Seattle city limits, in operation for at least 12 months, have an active City of Seattle Business License, employ no more than 50 full-time equivalent employees, generate annual gross revenue of $2 million or less, and be current on loan payments at the time of the paydown award.

KY SBIR/STTR Matching Grant
Kentucky Innovation

KY Innovation offers comprehensive programs to help companies apply for, win and match federal Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grants and contracts. The SBIR/STTR programs are known as America's Seed Fund for good reason. They provide a vital source of non-dilutive capital in the form of federal grants and contracts for promising technologies, while allowing innovators to maintain intellectual property and positioning them well to receive private follow on funding. KY Innovation can be a key partner in helping you compete. Innovators that receive SBIR or STTR awards can benefit from additional funding to bridge the gap between Phase I and Phase II, as well as to speed up the commercialization process. The Kentucky SBIR/STTR Matching Funds Award Program is a non-dilutive, reimbursable grant, awarded on a competitive basis. The grant will match up to $100,000 for a Phase I project, and up to $150,000 for a phase two project. Applicants must be recipients of a SBIR/STTR award, a for-profit company, and based in, or willing to re-locate to, Kentucky.
