New Bedford Wicked Cool Storefronts Grant
City of New Bedford
ABOUT THE GRANT
The Wicked Cool Storefronts Grant is a seasonal, rapid-response grant program that provides New Bedford, Massachusetts brick-and-mortar for-profit retail, service, restaurant, and cafe businesses with grants that average around $2,500 (up to a maximum of $5,000) to fund creative placemaking or placekeeping projects that drive holiday foot traffic and seasonal shopping. Administered by New Bedford Creative at the New Bedford Economic Development Council and funded through the City of New Bedford’s Arts, Culture, and Tourism Fund, the program is designed to help local storefront businesses activate the holiday shopping season through creative, culturally-grounded programming.
Eligible projects fall into one of two categories. Placemaking projects create a sense of place and draw people in, with examples including window displays, live music, pop-up events, workshops, and seasonal installations. Placekeeping projects preserve and celebrate the cultural identity of a place and the people who live there, with examples including cultural programming, storefront lighting, storytelling, artist demonstrations, and welcoming signage.
To qualify, applicants must operate a brick-and-mortar for-profit retail, service, restaurant, or cafe business located in New Bedford, Massachusetts. Applications are submitted through the New Bedford Creative online portal on Good Grants and are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis by an Independent Review Team. Once approved, funds are awarded promptly so projects can be completed in time to activate the holiday season. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until grant funds are fully depleted.
