Purpose: The goal of the Senate Bill 1 Sea Level Rise Adaptation Planning Grant Program (SB 1 Grant Program) is to support the implementation of SB 1 (Atkins, 2021) for local, regional, and tribal governments. Ultimately, the SB 1 Grant Program aims to provide funding for coastal communities to develop consistent sea level rise (SLR) adaptation plans and projects to build resilience to SLR along the entire coast of California and San Francisco Bay. Description: The SB 1 Grant Program aims to provide funding for sea level rise (SLR) adaptation planning to help prepare communities for the impacts of climate change. While many jurisdictions have advanced planning already underway or complete, many others have yet to begin comprehensive planning or assessments. The Ocean Protection Council (OPC) aims to address this need by offering funding for a range of SLR planning activities.

The Downtown Johnson City Micro-Grants provide downtown Johnson City, Tennessee businesses and property owners with annual grants ranging from $500 to $4,000 to help grow, enhance their spaces, and bring new energy to the downtown district. Administered by Connect Downtown Johnson City, Inc., the program awards funding across three categories tailored to different types of downtown investment. -Business Improvement Grants ($1,500 to $4,000) support improvements to the appearance, functionality, accessibility, or customer experience of a downtown business, including exterior lighting, outdoor seating, façade improvements, ADA upgrades, and interior renovations. -Business Development Grants ($750 to $3,000) support business growth through new products, services, branding, technology, or other revenue-generating opportunities, including e-commerce tools, pop-up expenses, product launches, equipment, and seasonal expansions. -Downtown Engagement Grants ($250 to $1,500) support events and experiences that draw people downtown, such as workshops, business-hosted events, customer appreciation events, live music, tastings, and collaborative promotions. To be eligible, applicants must be current downtown business or property owners within the Main Street Program Area, or new businesses with an executed lease agreement, and all funded projects must take place at a downtown Johnson City location. Grant funds cannot be used for staff or employee wages, insurance premiums, or utility bills. Applications must include proof of estimates or expense quotes, and funded projects must be completed within six months with all receipts and documentation submitted. If total project expenses come in below the awarded grant amount, any remaining funds must be returned within six months.

The Wish Local Empowerment Program, funded by the e-commerce brand Wish, is designed to support Black-owned small businesses. With a $2 million fund, the program offers financial assistance between $500 and $2,000 to around 4,000 Wish Local partners. To qualify, businesses must be Black-owned, have 20 or fewer employees, and earn under $1 million annually. Recipients will also gain access to Wish Local's consumer base through various partnership opportunities.

WorkInvestNH is a job training grant available to businesses in or willing to relocate to New Hampshire that provide comprehensive job training for their workers. Eligible companies can receive matching funds (up to $70,000) to cover on-site training, basic skills training, technical skills training, quality improvements and safety training, management and supervision training, and English as a second language training.

The Start Garden 100 is Michigan's largest open business competition, awarding a total of up to $500,000 in combined grant, loan, and startup capital across 100 finalists and 10 grand prize winners. Administered by Start Garden — a Grand Rapids-based accelerator focused on equitable entrepreneur-driven economic development — the competition is open to anyone in Michigan with a business idea, including aspiring entrepreneurs and existing businesses exploring a new opportunity. Applicants submit a 100-second video pitch to enter, and 100 finalists are selected to each receive a $1,000 no-strings-attached cash grant to begin preparing for the program's Demo Day event in downtown Grand Rapids. At Demo Day, ten grand prize winners are each awarded an additional $20,000 cash grant from Start Garden, and through a partnership with Northern Initiatives — a nonprofit Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) that has supported Michigan small businesses for over 30 years — each of those ten winners is also offered an optional pre-approved $20,000 loan, bringing the maximum potential capital per winner to $40,000. While the specific blend of grant, loan, and additional capital partner funding varies depending on each winner's business and chosen pathway, the overall program represents one of the most significant pools of accessible startup funding available in the state. A separate high school category for students under 18 awards $1,000 each to five selected finalists, with an additional $5,000 going to a high school winner chosen on Demo Day. Beyond funding, finalists receive two months of mentorship and refinement support from Start Garden's leadership team and partners, along with visibility through the Demo Day platform and ongoing connections within Michigan's entrepreneurial ecosystem.
