ABOUT THE GRANT
The Arkansas Workforce Development Grants provide Arkansas employers with reimbursement grants of up to $250,000 to fund training programs that develop the state's workforce, reduce gaps in worker skills, and support customized technical training. Administered by the Arkansas Office of Skills Development (OSD), the program makes strategic investments in Arkansas's workforce by helping local businesses provide cutting-edge, customized employee training. The umbrella program is currently offered through four grant pathways, each designed for different training needs and business circumstances.
The Grow Our Own Grant is available to Arkansas businesses with 250 or fewer employees and reimburses up to 75 percent of allowable training expenses, with maximum funding of $250,000 per quarter. The grant is designed to help small and mid-sized Arkansas employers develop and upskill their existing workforce.
The Customized Technical Grant supports highly technical training that is specific to or customized for a particular industry, skill, or type of equipment. This grant reimburses up to 75 percent of allowable training expenses, with maximum funding of $250,000 per fiscal year.
The Skills Gap Grant addresses the growing gap between employer workforce needs and the skills of the current workforce, and is designed to target critical skill gaps across a particular region or industry rather than any one individual business. Because awards are not typically granted to individual businesses, funding levels are determined on a case-by-case basis rather than pre-set caps.
The Professional Development Grant reimburses basic professional or academic training to help equip employees for success, including skills such as leadership, conflict resolution, and Microsoft Office. This grant reimburses companies for up to 50 percent of allowable training expenses, with maximum funding of $50,000 per fiscal year.

The Small Business Improvement Fund (SBIF) provides reimbursement grant funding for permanent building improvements and repairs across the city. Offered by the Department of Planning and Development (DPD) to tenants and owners of industrial and commercial properties, SBIF grants are funded by Tax Increment Financing (TIF) revenues in designated TIF districts citywide. Program participants can receive grants to cover between 30 percent and 90 percent of the cost of remodeling work, with a maximum grant of $150,000 for commercial properties and $250,000 for industrial properties. The grant, which is administered by SomerCor on the City’s behalf, does not have to be repaid.
Lake Dallas BIG Program

The Lake Dallas Business Improvement Grant (BIG) Program offers commercial property owners in Lake Dallas a 1:1 matching grant of up to $10,000 to fund exterior improvements that enhance the appearance of their storefronts and premises. Administered by the Lake Dallas Community Development Corporation (LDCDC), the program is designed to strengthen the city's commercial corridors by helping property owners renovate, restore, or add features such as building facades, signage, lighting, windows, doors, awnings, and landscaping. Eligible improvements also include cleaning, repainting, re-bricking, accessibility upgrades, and the construction of new appropriately-scaled storefronts on existing buildings. In addition to financial assistance, city staff provide free technical guidance during the conceptual stage to help applicants plan improvements that align with the city's design standards. Grants are issued as reimbursements after the project is completed and receipts have been reviewed.
Launch Marin City
Marin County
The Launch Marin City program offers Marin City, California small business owners a free 12-week entrepreneurship training program, with all graduates becoming eligible to apply for a grant of up to $10,000 from the County of Marin upon completion. The grant itself is not automatic; graduates apply for the funding directly with the County after finishing the program. Launch Marin City is administered by the Marin County Office of Equity and Division of Economic Vitality as part of the Marin County Microbusiness Support Program (MSP), a broader initiative funded through the 2022-2025 Marin County Race Equity Action Plan (REAP). The program is designed to give small business owners the knowledge, mentorship, and community they need to build or grow the business they envision. Each cohort accepts 20 participants and meets weekly for 12 sessions in the evening, either in person at the Marin County Free Library's Marin City Branch or via Zoom, depending on the preferences of the cohort. Curriculum topics include sharpening business goals and next steps, reaching customers and marketing the business, pricing products or services, strengthening money management and budgeting, building stronger business systems, and creating a clear plan to move the business forward. Participation is completely free (a $2,500 value covered by MSP funding). To be eligible for Launch Marin City, applicants must be a small business owner who lives or works in Marin City. Businesses from all industries and sectors are invited to apply. Applications are reviewed after each cohort's deadline, with 20 participants selected per session and applicants typically notified of acceptance approximately one week before the cohort begins.
