ABOUT THE GRANT
Applications for all three programs are reviewed on a quarterly cycle, with City staff reviewing submissions and recommending funding awards to the Covington Board of Commission for final approval. Award and approval processes typically take six to eight weeks. Applicants must be in compliance with Covington's Good Standing Ordinance (current on loans, fines, liens, and other obligations to the City) and meet all zoning, building, and health code requirements.
The Rent Subsidy Incentive provides reimbursement of up to half of a business's monthly rent (or $500 per month, whichever is less) for up to 12 months within the first 18 months of business, with a maximum total benefit of $6,000. The program is designed to help new businesses launch or existing businesses expand, and requires a minimum two-year lease, at least one full-time equivalent employee whose wages are reported to the City of Covington, and set operating hours of 30 hours per week or more. New businesses must have been open for less than 120 days at the time of the application deadline, while existing businesses can qualify as a "substantial expansion" by occupying more than 150 percent of their current space, incurring at least $5,000 in tenant improvements, and creating at least one additional full-time equivalent employee. Businesses renting in publicly owned buildings, check cashing businesses, vape shops, home-based businesses, businesses where ownership also owns the real estate, and accelerator, incubator, or coworking operators are not eligible.
The Façade Improvement Forgivable Loan provides commercial property owners with a 50 percent matching forgivable loan of up to $10,000 to update their building's façade. Applicants can pursue one of two options: an Exterior Only option, which reimburses the owner's investment on a $1-to-$1 basis up to $20,000 in total project cost (with City funds spent only on the street-facing façade), or an Interior and Exterior option (available for vacant buildings being prepared for a tenant), which allows the private match to go toward interior "white box" renovations while City funds are still spent exclusively on exterior improvements. Eligible improvements include painting, storefront restoration, exterior lighting, windows, signage, awnings, tuck-pointing, and cornice repairs. Roofs are not eligible, and projects focused exclusively on signage or awnings do not qualify. A Certificate of Appropriateness from the City's Historic Preservation Specialist is required, even for non-historic buildings. Property owners must hold the property for at least three years following the improvement, with full repayment required if the property is sold within that period.
The Historic Electric Sign Program provides commercial property owners (or businesses with the property owner as a co-applicant) with an 80 percent city / 20 percent owner matching forgivable loan of up to $10,000 to help restore existing projecting signs or install refurbished historic signs on their building's façade. The program is designed to enhance the aesthetic appeal of Covington's commercial districts, generate foot traffic, and improve businesses' curb appeal by bringing historic electric signage back into use. A Certificate of Appropriateness from the City's Historic Preservation Specialist is required, and face changes to existing signs are not eligible. Recipients must sign a covenant protecting the sign from removal, sale, or demolition for 25 years following reimbursement, with full repayment required if the sign is voluntarily removed or destroyed in violation of the covenant. Bonus consideration is given to signs that are documented to be at least 50 years old.

The Inner Sunset Neighborhood Vibrancy Fund provides Inner Sunset small businesses in San Francisco with grants of up to $20,000 to support storefront beautification, technical assistance, and storefront activation across the neighborhood's commercial corridors. Administered by SF New Deal, a nonprofit that has strengthened San Francisco's small businesses and neighborhood vibrancy citywide since 2020, the fund is a pilot program financed by private donors and community members with a stake in the neighborhood, with expected support for up to 20 small businesses across three funding tracks. -The Storefront Beautification track provides up to $10,000 to fund small but impactful storefront investments, such as replacing damaged awnings, repairing broken windows, or restoring outdoor planters. -The Technical Assistance track provides up to $5,000 to help businesses cover the cost of professional services and other advisory support. -The Storefront Activation track provides up to $20,000 to businesses that take over a vacant storefront in the Inner Sunset, offsetting the cost of opening in a previously empty space. Applications are reviewed by a community advisory group of Inner Sunset neighbors, and there are no fixed caps on how much funding can go toward any single track (funding is directed toward the strongest applications regardless of category). The Inner Sunset was selected as the pilot neighborhood at the request of the initial donors, and future expansion of the model to other neighborhoods may be possible if additional community funding is secured.

The Downtown Houston+ Property Improvement Grants offer property owners, businesses, and developers in Downtown Houston multiple funding opportunities to revitalize buildings, activate storefronts, and enhance street-level vibrancy. Administered by Downtown Houston+ in partnership with the Houston Downtown Management District and the Downtown Redevelopment Authority, the program currently includes four grant pathways tailored to different types of improvements: the Thrive Storefront Grant Program, which offers 1:2 matching grants of up to $50,000 to fund ground-level storefront improvements that increase retail activity and street-level vibrancy; the Facade Improvement Grant, which provides up to $250,000 to help property owners and tenants within the TIRZ #3 boundaries revitalize building facades; the Alfresco Grant, which provides up to $10,000 for non-permanent outdoor furnishings such as seating, umbrellas, and planters, with an additional $5,000 available for permanent fixtures like awnings and lighting; and the Fresh Start Market Grant, which works with existing grocery-offering businesses to enhance fresh food offerings, staff training, and physical improvements to their space. All grant applications are evaluated against the Downtown Houston+ Design Standards, and awards are subject to available budget and organizational priorities.
Hercules Business Attraction Grant
City of Hercules
The City of Hercules has allocated $200,000 to attract certain types of desired eating and drinking businesses, and general businesses in larger retail spaces, by helping with move-in costs. The program provides grants of $5,000 (minimum) to $25,000 (maximum) for qualified new eating & drinking establishments, and $50,000 to $100,000 for qualified general businesses in larger spaces. The grant amount must be matched by the applicant.
North Miami Economic Development Small Business Grant
North Miami EDD
The Economic Development Small Business Grant provides North Miami small businesses with reimbursement of up to $7,500 to fund expenses that help them grow and operate more effectively. Administered by the City of North Miami's Economic Development Department and funded through the federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, the grant is open to both for-profit and nonprofit businesses with a physical commercial location within the city. Funds may be applied to a range of approved uses, including equipment and tools, training and certifications, supplies and inventory, marketing and branding, energy-efficient upgrades, commercial liability insurance, and professional services such as CPAs and attorneys. The program operates as a reimbursement: businesses must spend a minimum of 20% of the approved award upfront, and reimbursement is issued in a single payment once eligible receipts have been verified by the department. Applications are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis subject to available funding.
