Flagstaff Business Retention & Expansion Incentive
City of Flagstaff
ABOUT THE GRANT
The Flagstaff Business Retention & Expansion Incentive is an annual competitive grant program that provides Flagstaff, Arizona small businesses with grants of $2,500 to $30,000 to help retain or grow their operations in the city. Administered by the City of Flagstaff's Economic Development Program, the program allocates a total of $45,000 per fiscal year in grant funding, with up to $15,000 of that total available to nonprofit organizations focused on economic development. Grants are issued on a reimbursement basis and are paid out based on receipts for actual expenditures.
Businesses in any small business sector are welcome to apply, but priority is given to entrepreneurial companies and start-ups, along with businesses in bio-sciences, medical devices, research and development, health care, clean energy, software development, forestry, food processing, education, and businesses located at Flagstaff Pulliam Airport Airside. Applicants are also encouraged to focus on providing high-wage, low environmental impact jobs. To qualify, businesses must be physically located within the City of Flagstaff municipal boundary and employ between 1 and 150 people. Nonprofit entities focused on economic development and located within Flagstaff are also eligible, and must demonstrate how the proposed project will help retain or create jobs, support organizational growth, or address a business challenge through economic development activities.
A cash match is required, and the requested grant amount must equal the applicant's cash match. Applications are reviewed by a scoring panel composed of City staff and community members and are ranked based on 100 total points across four criteria: Wages (25 points) comparing the wages of the jobs being retained or created relative to the Greater Flagstaff Metropolitan Area median wage (currently $29.44 per hour) and the average sector wage, Environmental Impact (25 points) capturing the applicant's impacts to water and energy usage and community waste stream, Direct Community Benefit (40 points) describing benefits to the community beyond the applicant's business (such as infrastructure, workforce development opportunities, or volunteer engagement), and Match (10 points) accounting for the applicant's private investment relative to the requested grant.
A single business may be awarded up to three grants over the life of the program, but will not be awarded a grant in any successive fiscal year (for example, a business awarded in FY25 would not be eligible until FY27). Successful applicants are required to provide annual updates for two years following a grant award and meet with City of Flagstaff Economic Development staff quarterly over the duration of the grant, and may also be included in future City of Flagstaff marketing efforts.

Wolf-Livestock Compensation Grant Program
CA Department of Fish and Wildlife
Purpose: The purpose of the grant is to help mitigate the impact of wolves on livestock producers in California. The Wolf-Livestock Compensation Grant Program has established three primary areas of need and compensation; direct livestock loss from wolf depredation, the use nonlethal deterrent tools, and the compensation for indirect loss or affects from wolves on livestock. Description: The Wolf-Livestock Compensation Grant Program has three “prongs”, or potential grant opportunities, for eligible applicants: direct loss compensation, nonlethal deterrent methods support, and indirect loss compensation. This grant opportunity involves the first prong, direct loss compensation, in which producers can be compensated for direct livestock loss (death, injury) due to confirmed or probable wolf depredation. Wolf depredation is determined during an investigation and documented by CDFW on a Livestock Loss Determination form. Each reported depredation incident is unique and requires a case-by-case analysis of the evidence, context, and other factors that inform the determination process. CDFW strives to conduct investigations as soon as reasonably possible to preserve physical evidence and gather information from producers and potential eyewitnesses. Wolf depredation is “confirmed” when there is physical evidence that an animal was injured or killed by a wolf and “probable” when there is sufficient evidence to suggest wolf predation (e.g., evidence of predation and evidence that wolves were likely present at the time of injury or death), but not enough evidence to confirm it. Upon issuance of compensation for a direct loss, producers will be expected to consult with the Department to evaluate and implement a deterrent strategy that may be beneficial in reducing wolf-livestock conflict. The deterrent tools and/or actions implemented as part of this strategy may be eligible for compensation under the program’s second prong, if and when sufficient funds are available.
SPURRING PROJECTS TO ADVANCE ENERGY RESEARCH AND KNOWLEDGE SWIFTLY (SPARKS)
Advanced Research Projects Agency Energy
This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) provides a continuing opportunity for the rapid support of early-stage applied research to explore innovative new concepts with the potential for transformational and disruptive changes in energy technology. Spurring Projects to Advance Energy Research and Knowledge Swiftly (SPARKS) awards are intended to be flexible and may take the form of analyses or exploratory research that provides the agency with useful information for the subsequent development of focused technology programs. SPARKS awards may also support proof-of-concept research to develop a unique technology concept, either in an area not currently supported by the agency or as a potential enhancement to an ongoing focused technology program. Applications must propose concepts that are not covered by open ARPA-E focused FOAs and that do not represent incremental improvements over existing technology. SPARKS awards are defined as single-phase efforts of durations of 18 months or less with a total project cost of $500,000 or less and will be issued through Grants. ARPA-E expects to make approximately $10 million per fiscal year available for new awards, subject to the availability of appropriated funds. This announcement is purposely broad in scope to encourage the submission of the most innovative ideas in energy technology to support transformative energy R&D that complements ARPA-E’s primary mechanism, which is through the solicitation of research projects in focused technology programs.ARPA-E’s focused programs target specific areas of technology that the agency has identified through extensive interaction with the appropriate external stakeholders. The focused programs have significant potential impact on one or more of the statutory goals described in Section I.A of the FOA. Awards made in response to the solicitation for focused programs support the aggressive technical targets established in that solicitation. Taken in total, ARPA-E’s focused programs cover a broad swath of energy technologies and applications.
