The Downtown Building Rehabilitation (DBR) Grant provides business owners, Tribal governments, and nonprofits with reimbursement grants of up to $50,000 (or one-third of total project cost, whichever is lower) to finance code-compliant construction and remodeling projects on downtown commercial buildings. Funded by Iron Range Resources & Rehabilitation (IRRR), Minnesota's economic development agency for the Iron Range region, and administered through a partnership with the Arrowhead Economic Opportunity Agency (AEOA), the program is available to businesses located within IRRR's northeastern Minnesota service area. Eligible buildings must be located on a main street in a downtown area, though applications from other locations in commercial business corridors may be reviewed on a case-by-case basis if additional funds are available. Eligible costs must relate to code compliance and can include general construction, electrical, plumbing, elevator, ADA, mechanical, and sprinkler work, housing rehabilitation, lead and asbestos removal, storefront improvements, and new construction or remodeling in the event of fire or natural disaster. Up to 10 percent of the grant may be used for professional services such as architectural, engineering, or design assistance on code compliance issues. Applications are accepted year-round and reviewed twice per year. A $500 AEOA application fee is required at the initial inspection and processed at project closing. Work cannot begin prior to approval and site inspection, and grant payments are made directly to the awarded contractor or vendor upon completion and final inspection. Applicants are limited to one project per year (additional projects considered case-by-case) and must have property taxes paid and up to date, along with verification from the Minnesota Secretary of State that the organization and any contractors are active and in good standing. Prevailing wage must be paid and certified payroll collected.

The City of Suffolk offers a Small Business Improvement Grant to local retail and restaurant operations to help them fund building improvements. Businesses can get grants equal to up to 50% of their project costs, not to exceed $10,000. Companies must commit to creating at least one new, full-time job to qualify.

The Advancing Skills, Capabilities, and Expertise for New Development (ASCEND) grant will reimburse Texas employers for training that addresses demand for rapidly evolving skills and local workforce conditions. Each grantee may receive up to $500,000 or a maximum reimbursement of $4,000 per trainee. Funds can be used for work-based learning programs, on-the-job training, apprenticeships, and classroom or virtual instruction.

The West Chester Spark Small Business Revitalization Grant provides small businesses in West Chester Township, Ohio with reimbursement grants ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 to fund aesthetic exterior improvements that beautify the "front door" of their business. Administered by the West Chester Township Board of Trustees through the Economic Development Manager, the program is designed to drive revitalization in the township's neighborhoods and business corridors by helping business owners invest in improvements that enhance the appearance of their properties. Eligible projects include exterior painting or lighting, outdoor gathering spaces (patios, seating, courtyards), hardscaping, landscaping, signage upgrades or replacements, awnings, and demolition of existing structures. Projects that have already been permitted, completed, or are underway are not eligible. To qualify, applicants must be a locally owned private business (no nonprofits or private residences), be located in West Chester Township, be either the property owner or a tenant (with written approval from the property owner), be in compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, and have 20 or fewer full-time-equivalent employees. Businesses are limited to one Spark Grant per calendar year and no more than four Spark Grants over the lifetime of the business, with the award amount reduced by 25 percent for each consecutive-year renewal. Grant amounts are determined by the strength of each application, with scoring based on the quality of the design proposal, project location, job creation and impact, the positive impact of the project on the surrounding neighborhood, and the amount of private contribution the applicant will leverage beyond the requested funds. Grants are distributed as reimbursements via ACH after project completion, and are considered taxable income for the recipient.

The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism solicits applications for an R01 Clinical Trial Optional mechanism focusing on alcohol health services. This NOFO will broadly focus on closing the treatment gap for individuals with alcohol use disorder (AUD); within this focus, there are five major areas of emphasis: (1) increasing access to treatment for AUD, (2) making treatment for AUD more appealing, (3) examining cost structures and insurance systems, (4) conducting studies on dissemination and implementation of existing evidence-based approaches to treating AUD, and (5) reducing health disparities as a means of addressing the treatment gap in AUD for health disparity populations.
